The key objective of YPMF is to encourage young people in schools and colleges to begin critically thinking about the local problems that affect their communities and creatively generate practical ideas to solve those problems. The guiding principle is that policy problems need not necessarily be the baggage of elected leaders in our communities or the government but a collective responsibility.

To do this, YPMF designs various projects that motivate students to work in groups to identify real public problems and come up with creative ways of solving the problems in partnership with their communities, local leaders, private and government organizations. The modus operandi is a competition set up where winning projects secure funding for part or full implementation.

The Ultimate output is to feed into the development matrix of local communities by empowering young people to exercise their academic and professional prowess within initiatives that impact and change their lives and those of their communities positively
